The Zambia Police Service has launched an investigation into a suspected murder case following the discovery of a burnt body inside a vehicle along Sheki-Sheki Road in Emmasdale, Lusaka.

The incident was reported on March 11, 2025, at approximately 21:10 hours by Issah Ahmed, 27, of Villa Elizabetha, Lusaka. According to his report, a vehicle was found on fire with an unidentified individual inside, burnt beyond recognition. The incident is believed to have occurred around 19:48 hours.

Preliminary investigations indicate that at 19:30 hours, John Nkata, 26, a neighborhood watch member of Emmasdale Township, alerted Ahmed about a burning vehicle near his residence. Upon arrival, Ahmed discovered the victim inside the flaming car and, with the help of neighbors, managed to extinguish the fire before informing the police.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the deceased trapped in the driver’s seat. Further examination revealed that the victim’s hands and legs had been tied together with a wire, suggesting possible foul play.

The vehicle involved is a silver Toyota Corolla. However, the owner has not yet been identified. The body has since been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary for postmortem examination and possible identification.

Police have opened a docket and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

“The Zambia Police Service remains committed to ensuring justice is served,” said Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga.
