A road traffic accident in Mpika district, Muchinga Province, has claimed three lives and left two hospitalized.
The accident occurred on April 17, 2025, around 12:00 hours in Chibaye village, 30 kilometers west of Mpika Boma, along the Mpika-Kasama road.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner DENNIS MOOLA says the accident happened when the driver of a Mitsubishi Pajero registration AQB 494, WILLIAM MULEMBA, 50, of Casanova compound, misjudged the clearance distance and lost control of the vehicle.
Mr. MOOLA says the vehicle hit a Kinglion motorbike traveling in the same direction, causing the rider and pillion to fall off.
He says the motor vehicle then veered off the road to the left side and overturned.
Mr. MOOLA says there were five passengers on board, including FEDDY NASIMWAKA, 42, of Overspill in Ndola, who sustained chest and back pain, and NICKSON TEMBO, 49, of Mikomfya compound in Luanshya, who sustained a painful right shoulder and headache.
He says the two victims are receiving treatment at Michael Chilufya Sata Hospital and unfortunately, three unidentified male passengers sustained fatal head and body injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The Police Commissioner says the rider of the Kinglion motorbike, LOMBE KASONGAMULILO, 20, of Malambwa village, sustained a cut on the right knee and bruises on both hands and is admitted to Michael Chilufya Sata Hospital.
He said the pillion fled the scene after the accident.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Mpika Urban Clinic mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
