Farmers in Zambezi District have been urged to take deliberate actions to adopt best agricultural practices that enhance crop productivity and protect the environment, thereby transforming the district into a model of climate-smart agriculture.

Speaking yesterday, June 20th, at the 2025 District Agriculture and Commercial Show held at Kaunda Square Ground, Mr. Wellington Mwangu, the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), standing in for the District Commissioner, stressed the critical role of innovation and adapting to new technologies in the face of climate change.

Mr. Mwangu, who served as guest of honor, observed that climate change is an immediate concern, impacting rainfall patterns, soil fertility and crop productivity worldwide. He underscored the importance of embracing new approaches to bolster resilience, safeguard livelihoods and enhance sustainable agricultural output.

The guest of honor also revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with other district stakeholders, has made significant strides in championing climate-smart agriculture.

“The Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with stakeholders, continues to promote climate-smart agriculture including promoting conservation farming, early-maturing crop varieties, agroforestry and water harvesting techniques”, He remarked.

” I urge you all to embrace these innovations to increase in your resilience, protection of livelihoods and sustain agricultural productivity “.

Ms. Majory Kakola Dauchi, the Provincial Agricultural and Commercial Show society Chairperson was also in attendance and echoed the pressing need for farmers to adopt climate change adaptation strategies, such as implementing climate-resilient agricultural methods to maintain agricultural production and ensure food security in the region.

Zambezi Town Council joined other key exhibitors showcasing the wide range of services offered to the people of Zambezi. Selected departments namely Planning, Engineering services and Administration set up displays and provided detailed insights into their mandate to the spectators.

This year’s District Agriculture and Commercial Show was held under the theme: “ADAPTING TO CLIMATE CHANGE”.
