A Grade 7 pupil from Dungulungu Village in Chama District has died two days after colliding with another pupil while trying to head the ball during a football match at the inter-school zone ballgames.
According to an eye Witness, MENARD MTAMBO from Dungulungu Primary School, was part of a football match between Dungulungu Primary School and Mundalanga Primary School, hosted at Chama Primary School.
MENARD and another pupil, whose name has not yet been identified, collided while trying to head the ball. MENARD fell to the ground, fainted, and was quickly rushed to Chama District Hospital for medical attention.
Chama District Health Director BILLIATY PHIRI says MENARD, who experienced some head injuries, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday, 18 June 2025.
Dr. PHIRI says MENARD, who was still receiving treatment at the hospital, was also diagnosed with malaria and passed away on 20 June 2025, at around 22:30 hours.
When contacted for comment, the office of the Chama District Education Board Secretary DEBS stated that it is still gathering information about the incident.
And Eastern Province Police Commissioner ROBERTSON MWEEMBA says the police are yet to receive the report about the incident.
