Chipata Central Hospital has issued an official statement denying allegations that a patient was beaten by medical staff, insisting that no assault took place and that its workers maintain high professional standards.
This clarification comes after a patient claimed he had been physically assaulted by hospital personnel at the facility.
According to the hospital’s statement, released by the Office of the Senior Medical Superintendent, management says it conducted an internal review and found that the incident stemmed from the patient’s refusal to take the medication prescribed by a doctor.
The patient allegedly demanded an alternative drug, which the doctor determined was not appropriate for his condition.
The facility says this disagreement triggered what it describes as a “violent reaction” from the patient toward the doctor, contrary to the version of events stated by the patient.
Hospital management emphasized that all health workers at the facility are trained professionals committed to delivering equitable and quality care in line with the Ministry of Health’s mandate.
The hospital further confirmed that the patient remains in its custody and receiving appropriate health services.
