Police in Chama District of Eastern Province have arrested a 43-year-old Senior Resident Medical Officer for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the development and identified the suspect as Frank Kapendi of Rest House Compound, Chief Kambombo.
Mr. Mweemba said the incident occurred between January 2024 and April 2026 on an unknown date and time, and the suspect was arrested yesterday, 5th May 2026.
He said the victim reported the matter on May 2, 2026, stating that she was defiled and impregnated by a known adult male.
Mr. Mweemba said the victim complained of discomfort in her private parts and stomach pain.
He said that during the interview, the suspect admitted to having sex with the victim five months ago, which corroborated the findings of medical personnel, who confirmed that the victim is five months pregnant.
Mr. Mweemba said the suspect also led police officers to his house, where he showed them his bed and identified it as the one he used to defile the victim.
He said the suspect has been charged and will appear in court soon.
