Government has received 25 metric tonnes of palm dates, valued at about 700,000 Kwacha, from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support households affected by flooding.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Permanent Secretary in charge of Resettlement, Ms. Mavis Nkomeshya, said the donation reflects strong international solidarity in times of disaster and will contribute to ongoing relief efforts in affected areas.

Ms. Nkomeshya said the donation of 25 tonnes of dates is expected to benefit various vulnerable groups across the country as part of ongoing social support interventions.

She said the Government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, remains committed to responding swiftly to the impacts of natural disasters and ensuring vulnerable communities receive timely assistance.

And, Head of Media at the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Zambia, Ahmed Abdou said the donation underscores the long-standing relations between Saudi Arabia and Zambia, which continue to grow through cooperation and mutual respect in various fields.
