Police in Monkey Bay have arrested 66-year-old Mavuto Saulos for allegedly amputating the fingers of a person he suspected of stealing potatoes from his garden.
Monkey Bay Police spokesperson Kondwani James informed the Malawian media this morning that the arrest was made after the circulation of a video on social media showing the suspect cutting off the victim’s fingers.
“We have arrested Mr. Saulos following a video that shows the man cutting off three fingers from Chikondi Samuel’s hand using a machete,” said James.
According to the spokesperson, the police have transported the injured individual to Monkey Bay Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
