Zambia Sugar PLC, in partnership with other sponsors Thursday morning, officially flagged off the 2026 Golf Invitational at Mazabuka Golf Club, reaffirming its commitment to promoting sports development in Zambia.
Speaking during the tournament’s official opening, Zambia Sugar Managing Director, Oswald Magwenzi underscored the importance of golf as one of the key sporting disciplines supported by the company as part of its broader commitment to nurturing sports and health across the country.
Magwenzi said Zambia Sugar, alongside its partners, remains dedicated to supporting the growth of golf and other sporting activities, noting that sports play a vital role in community development and social cohesion.
He encouraged participants to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and competition throughout the tournament, emphasizing that every player was a winner for taking part in the collective event.
Magwenzi further called on more corporate entities and stakeholders to come on board and support golf, stressing that increased sponsorship would contribute significantly to the growth of the sport in Mazabuka District and Zambia as a whole.
Meanwhile, Mazabuka Golf Club Captain Steve Cheepa expressed gratitude to Zambia Sugar for its continued support through the annual tournament even as the club commemorates 100 yrs of existence.
Cheepa revealed that the tournament had attracted golfers from various parts of the country, with participation expected to reach approximately 180 players and that part of the proceeds will be donated to Mazabuka General Hospital.
He also commended other sponsors for their contributions, noting that their support has enabled the club to achieve significant milestones while advancing sports development through such initiatives.
