THE Black Stars of Ghana have suffered an early setback ahead of the FIFA World Cup after midfielder Thomas Partey was denied entry into Canada for their opening match against Panama.

Partey, who plays for Spanish club Villarreal, is part of coach Carlos Queiroz’s squad, which has been camped in Boston, United States, ahead of the tournament.

According to the BBC, world football governing body FIFA confirmed that the former Arsenal midfielder had his visa application refused by the Canadian government.

The 32-year-old is facing seven charges of rape and one count of sexual assault relating to allegations made by four women between 2020 and 2022.

Partey is due to stand trial next year and has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Ghana face Panama on Thursday.
