Goods worth over K800,000 have been burnt to ashes at Kitwe’s Chisokone market after a fire swept through six shops at around 03: 00 hours.

The shops contained electrical goods and phone accessories.

Eye Witness, Oliver Mukosa said the fire started from one of the restaurant before spreading to other shops.

And, KITWE Town Clerk Patrick Kambita said preliminary investigations have revealed that the fire could have started as a result of an electrical fault.

Mr. Kambia said incidences of fires during winter are normally high in market places because traders are always in a hurry to do illegal electricity connections instead of engaging professionals to do the work.

And the Association of Vendors and Marketeers has cautioned traders in Chisokone market to engage professionals when it comes to connecting electricity to their shops.
