Police in Katete district of Eastern Proviince are investigating a suspected murd£r case of a 78-year old woman of Mwezolungu village in Chieftainess Kawaza’s area who was found dead in a decomposed state and buried in a shallow grave about two kilometers from the village.
Eastern Province Police Commanding officer Limpo Liywali who confirmed the development said that the incident occurred on unknown date but between 14 August 2023 at around 05:00 hours and 24th August 2023 at around 07:00 hours.
Mr Liywali said that the deceased’s daughter Chakumanda Sakala aged 48-years of the same village in Katete reported to the Police the death of her moter Dailess Banda aged 78-years.
Brief facts are that on 14th August 2023 at around 05:00 hours the deceased left home and went to the fields to plack wild vegetables commonly known as delele.
However she did not return home until Thursday August 24, 2023 when a piece of chitenge material she wore on the material day was seen protruding from the ground by some boys who were herding cattle who later informed the relatives.
Mr Liywali said that Police visited the scene and dug up the grave and found only bones.
He said the relatives were able to identify the deceased by clothes, chitenge material and the shoes that were found in the grave.
The Police Commanding officer says that the bones together with the clothes have been picked by relatives for a decent burial.
