Justice minister Mulambo Haimbe says continually discussing whether or not president Hakainde Hichilema will move to state house is trivial, especially that there is no law in Zambia that requires the head of state to live in State House.
Speaking on Friday’s edition of Let the People Talk on Phoenix FM this morning, Mr. Haimbe argued that former president Edgar Lungu equally lived in state lodge for most of his tenure and commuted to state house citing security concerns that apply to the current head of state.
And regarding the issue of the head of state declaring his assets, Mr. Haimbe said the head of state declared his asserts to the electoral commission of Zambia as mandated under the law but that this information will not be made public as no legislation requires such action.
Mr. Haimbe who highlighted that the law requires members of parliament to make annual submissions to the chief justice, also reiterated the need for the much called for lifestyle audits to go beyond public office bearers and apply to private citizens and those doing business with the state.
Meanwhile, Mr. Haimbe says the UPND government is cognizant that some members, and sympathizers of the party, among others, are championing caderism in public places but has reminded the Zambia police to take charge to ensure law and order prevails.
