Civil Service Commission (CSC) has this year dismissed 114 civil servants, promoted close to 8,000 and re-united over 1,000 couples.
Addressing the media at the end-of-year press briefing yesterday, CSC acting chairperson Choolwe Beyani said most of the workers have been dismissed on account of absenteeism.
“Absenteeism stands out as the most committed offence by officers who were dismissed,” he said.
“The commission is aware that this is just a fraction compared to the offences committed within the service.
“This should also serve as caution to supervisors in various Government departments not to be complacent when handling disciplinary cases as this would be at the expense of service delivery.”
Dr Beyani said the commission will also undertake staff spot-checks in various Government departments to ensure that the officers are present in their respective duty stations during working hours.
