An 81-year-old man from Chief Chitoshi’s area in Lunte District, Northern Province, has been kill£d by his biological son and grandson over accusations of practicing w!tchcraft.
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Lucky Munkondya confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with ZANIS.
Munkondya explained that Constantino Mutale was attacked on Thursday by his son, Chrispin Mutale, and grandson, Alfred Chongo, both of Longwani village, who suspected him of being involved in w!tchcraft.
The incident was reported to Lunte police yesterday by the deceased’s wife, Violet Mutale.
Munkondya stated that the victim sustained a swollen neck and bruises on his forehead. The attackers allegedly used kicks and fists during the assault, which took place in the presence of his 71-year-old wife.
According to brief details, the deceased was suspected of being a wizard and was believed to be responsible for the recent d£ath of his son, Daniel Mutale.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Luwingu District hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem.
Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers, and a docket has been opened.
