President Hakainde Hichilema with First Lady Mutinta Hichilema last evening at The Queen’s Dinner hosted by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022 is currently underway (20-25 June 2022) , in Kigali, Rwanda. The official opening of CHOGM took place on Friday 24 June and was followed by the main high-level meetings of Heads on Friday 24 to Saturday 25 June. They are proceeded by four Forums, ministerial meetings, side events and other activities.

Commonwealth leaders travelled to Rwanda to reaffirm their common values and agree actions and policies to improve the lives of all their citizens. Decisions taken at CHOGM also guide the work programme of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Leaders of Commonwealth countries meet every two years for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), hosted by different member countries on a rotating basis. Since 1971, a total of 24 meetings have been held, with the most recent being in the UK in 2018.

CHOGM was due to take place in June 2020 but was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
