Two people have di£d while five others have sustained injuries in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred yesterday, January 26, 2025, along the Ndola dual carriageway opposite Enara garage in Ndola.

According to copperbelt Police commissioner Peacewell Mweemba, the accident, which happened at around 18:50 hours, involved a Toyota Vitz, which was being driven by 25-year-old Benjamin Kinda of Mine Masala, Ndola.

The vehicle had its front part extensively damaged and Mr Kinda sustained a cut on the right cheek, a cut on the head, left arm, and general body pains.

He is currently admitted to Ndola Teaching Hospital receiving treatment.

The accident also involved a stationary Volvo tanker truck which had its rear bumper damaged and broken tail lights.

The truck was parked off on the left side of the road facing north by 39-year-old Luckson Kampamba of Kenani Villa, Ndola, who escaped unhurt.

According to eyewitnesses, the Toyota Vitz was being driven from south to north direction when the driver lost control due to excessive speed and hit two pedestrians who were moving along the same road, keeping left.

The two pedestrians, both male and aged between 30 and 35 years, sustained multiple body injuries and suspected internal body injuries.

They were pronounced d£ad upon arrival at Ndola Teaching Hospital and their bodies have been deposited into the mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.

The driver of the Toyota Vitz then lost control of the vehicle again and hit three other pedestrians who were moving along the same road from north to south direction.

The pedestrians, who have been identified as Changwe Pethyas, 43, of Mwange B, Zambia Compound, Mushili Commando area, Ndola, Naomi Lwenje, 34, of Lubuto, Ndola, and an unknown male aged between 25 and 30 years, sustained various injuries, including suspected fractured legs, general body pains, and cuts.

The Toyota Vitz then collided with the stationary tanker truck, causing further damage.

The police have launched an investigation into the accident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
