The introduction of bunk beds and blankets has significantly improved living conditions in Correctional Centres.

Additionally, the initiative has helped in decongesting cells ensuring better rest for inmates.

Government through the Ministry of Home affairs and Internal Security procured 50,000 blankets and 25,000 mattresses including materials for producing inmates’ bunk beds.

So far, the blankets and mattresses have been distributed, and bunk beds production is ongoing in correctional workshops.

This development is in line with government’s aspiration to create a humane living environment in Correctional/Prison Centres.

President Hakainde Hichilema directed the ZCS to decongest Correctional Centres and create humane environment.

Meanwhile, government has procured the orange fabric material for sewing inmates’ uniforms. The material has since been distributed to correctional centres countrywide.
