Lundazi, March 17, 2025, ZANIS…A two year old child who went missing over two weeks ago in Lundazi’s Mphamba area was yesterday found floating in a pit filled with water.

The body decomposed body of a toddler was discovered after being reportedly missing for about 2 weeks .
The incident is believed to have occurred on February 25, 2025 at around 14:00 hours when the child was allegedly reported to have followed it’s mother, Stella Phiri 29 to the central business district without her knowledge.

Lundazi Police have confirmed to have received a report of drowning on March 16, 2025 by the child’s father Malizyani Phiri 30 of Wazingwa Village in Chief Mphamba’s area of Lundazi district , Eastern Province.

The deceased child’s father told police that the body of the toddler was found floating in a pit which was full of water about 500 meters away from Chimuseu Village where he went missing from on February 25, 2025.

Brief facts of the matter are that on February 25, 2025 at around 14:00 hours, Stella Phiri 29, left her child aged 2 years with other children playing as she went to do some shopping at Lundazi Boma.

Police say while she was away her child is believed to have followed her and went missing in the process.

A report of a missing child was made on February 26, 2025 at the Lundazi police station and a search was launched immediately but the toddler could not be found.

Eastern Province Commissioner of Police said in Lundazi that that the body of the missing child was discovered on March 16, 2025, floating in a pit filled with water in a decomposed state

Owing its decomposed state, the body of the toddler was handed to the family for burial upon retrieval, and mark the grave for possible exhumation.
