The Lusaka High Court has sentenced two Lusaka maids to 15 years simple imprisonment for causing the death of their former employer’s two-year-old baby who swallowed a coin battery.
This is in a matter where NAMOONGA MASENGE and LINA CHIBUYE were facing one count of manslaughter.
In delivering judgment in the matter, judge MWILA KOMBE said she was satisfied that the prosecution had proved their case beyond all reasonable doubt against MASENGE and CHIBUYE.
Judge KOMBE said MASENGE and CHIBUYE failed to discharge their duty to care which they owed to the deceased.
The court said the two who informed the baby’s parents of their suspicion valued their jobs more than the life of the deceased who was left in their care.
Judge MWILA sentence the two to 15 years simple imprisonment from the date of arrested August 3, 2020.
