A 56 year old pedestrian of Nkungulu Village in Chief Kapichila’s area in Lundazi District, Eastern Province was yesterday hit by a speeding vehicle and died on the spot.
Frackson Mtonga sustained fatal injuries when a Toyota Succeed Vehicle Registration Number CAF 4101 which was being driven by Richard Lungu 48 of Chipata district’s Walela Compound hit him.
The vehicle which had five passengers on board was traveling from Lundazi to Chipata.
Eastern Province Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has told the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lundazi that the Road Traffic Accident (RTA) happened yesterday, 10 kilometres south of Lundazi near Msuzi Day Secondary School.
“Lundazi Traffic Police recorded the incident which happened around 13:40 hours”, he said.
Mr Mweemba said the driver and all the five passengers escaped unhurt while the motor vehicle had both its front and rear windscreens shattered and a depressed bonnet.
He said the body of the man has been deposited to Lundazi District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
“The RTA happened when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed and hit a pedestrian who was walking off the road”, Mr Mweemba explained.
