A dark cloud has fallen over Siamuleya Village in Pemba District following the tragic discovery of three-year-old Abraham Mulongo’s lifeless body in a dry stream, a day after he was reported missing.
According to a statement issued by Southern Division Police Commanding Officer, Commissioner Auxensio Daka, the child was first reported missing on March 30, 2025, at around 20:00 hours by his father, Mr. Sheen Mulongo. Abraham had last been seen between 07:00 and 10:00 hours while under the care of his nine-year-old sister, Mary Mulongo, as their mother, Virginia Mudenda, went to wash clothes at a community well.
Upon returning home, Virginia found her son missing and immediately raised the alarm. The village mobilized in a desperate search, but despite their efforts, Abraham remained missing until the following day.
According to the police report it was on March 31, 2025, around 11:00 hours, when the child’s lifeless body was discovered in a dry stream about 1.5 kilometers from his home. Police who visited the scene found Abraham lying face up in the two-meter-deep stream, with his shorts found three meters away. Initial examinations revealed no visible injuries, though a post-mortem is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have urged calm, stressing that investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at Pemba Hospital Mortuary as authorities work to establish what led to the young boy’s untimely death.
