The government has announced that it may be compelled to deduct Constituency Development Fund (CDF) money at the source to procure desks, in line with the presidential directive to ensure that no child sits on the floor.

Local Government Minister Gift Sialubalo explained that this decision stems from reports of resistance by some CDF Committee members, not only in Kitwe but also in other districts, to prioritize desk procurement in selected wards to meet the demand.

The Minister made these remarks during a meeting with councillors, CDFCs, and Kitwe City Council Management at the Council Chamber this morning.

Mr. Sialubalo emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that CDF funds are utilized to address specific priorities, including the provision of desks. However, he acknowledged that deducting funds at the source could limit the flexibility of local committees in allocating resources according to their own priorities.
