The Czech Republic delegation, led by Deputy Prime Ministers Marian Jurecka and Vlastimil Válek, visited Zambia and engaged in several high-level meetings.
The Czech delegates visited the Ministry of Mines and Minerals, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Ministry of labour, Ministry of health and the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ).
They also paid a courtesy call on President Hakainde Hichilema.
During the meeting with President Hakainde Hichilema, the Czech delegation discussed strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and peace initiatives.
President Hichilema appreciated the Czech Republic’s contributions to Zambia’s development, particularly in healthcare and agriculture.
At the Ministry of Mines and Mineral development, the Czech Republic pledged to donate K7.2 million for geological survey equipment to boost Zambia’s mining sector.
This donation aims to enhance Zambia’s capacity in geoscientific research, mineral analysis, and exploration support services.
The Czech Republic expressed interest in investing in Zambia’s mining sector and cooperating with the Ministry of Mines and private sector.
At the Ministry of Science and Technology, The Czech delegation urged Zambia to raise awareness about cyber laws to curb cybercrimes. They offered support in fighting cybercrimes and exchanging best practices in data management and processing and Minister of Science and Technology Felix Mutati called for a strategic partnership to develop advanced cybersecurity tools.
At the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, the Czech Republic expressed readiness to provide technological support and development assistance to Zambia’s livestock sector.
The Czech government is interested in supporting Zambia’s ambitious livestock expansion plan, which aims to increase livestock numbers and Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Peter Kapala highlighted the need for support in improving breeding techniques, particularly in embryo transfer technology.
At the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ), the Czech delegation toured the LS-MFEZ and expressed interest in investing in the economic zone.
They aim to bring new technologies and quality products to Zambia, contributing to infrastructure development and widening the knowledge base of the Zambian people.
The LS-MFEZ plans to develop a new Central Business District (CBD) within its premises, offering better infrastructure and offices.
Overall, the visit showed the growing partnership between Zambia and the Czech Republic, with both countries exploring opportunities for cooperation in various sectors, including mining, technology, livestock, and economic development.
