North-western Province Education Officer, Fredrick Munkinyi, has commended the government for tightening security at Kikonge gold mine area in Mufumbwe district. Mr Munkinyi said the uncontrolled gold rush had a negative impact on school going children in the area and the province as a whole. “It is true that in districts like Kasempa, Mufumbwe and also in surrounding districts, the children were not in school, they had gone for a gold rush when schools opened for the second term,” he said. Mr Munkinyi said government’s intervention to tighten security at the gold mine sites was commendable as it has helped to force children back into class.Credit – ZANIS
