An unidentified man who was riding a bicycle has died in a hit-and-run incident in Petauke District, Eastern Province.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Robertson Mweemba, confirmed the incident, stating that the accident occurred today, August 16, 2025, around 08:40 hours, opposite Ahamadiya School along Nyamphande Road in Chief Kalindawalo’s Chiefdom.

Mr. Mweemba says involved was an unknown motor vehicle driven by an unidentified driver from west to east direction who did not stop after the accident.

Also involved was an eagle bicycle being ridden from east to west direction by the unidentified male adult.

The accident is believed to have occurred when the driver lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speed, resulting in a collision with the cyclist coming from the opposite direction.

The victim sustained severe injuries, including a deep cut under the chin, bleeding from the left ear, multiple cuts on the head, and bruises on both feet.

The victim was rushed to Petauke District Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

He says the body of the deceased has been deposited in the Petauke District Hospital mortuary, awaiting identification and post-mortem examination results.
