ZNBC Kitwe librarian, Prisca Siwakwi, triumphed over stage 2 cervical cancer after intensive therapy in India, returning home to share her powerful story.
Weighing just 38 kilograms during chemotherapy, 48-year-old Prisca describes her comeback as the “greatest miracle” she has witnessed. She skipped her routine cervical cancer test in 2022, a choice that nearly cost her life.
“I learned the hard way, screening rescued me. Please, get screened. Don’t put it off.” Radiating new life, the mother of four has now embraced a life-saving crusade. Her immediate plea to fellow Zambian women: “Make screenings the first task of every new year.” She urges parents.
“Have your daughters vaccinated against HPV. It protects.” Her own journey is now her message.
“Listen to your body. Don’t dismiss abnormal discharge, bleeding, or persistent pain. Stay positive and let your loved ones support you. If you believe, healing finds you,” she advises.
Data suggest cervical cancer remains a leading killer of Zambian women, yet experts insist it can be prevented through early tests and the HPV jab. Celebrate the early win, but the race against this preventable disease continues. Let each of us choose life, starting with a screening this week.
