21st August, 2025The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has demolished additional illegal structures erected along Mosi-otunya Road and Tokyo Way.
In a joint night operation conducted by Council Police in collaboration with the State Police between 18:00hrs and 23:00hrs yesterday, the exercise saw the removal of eight (8) illegal mobile money booths along Mosi-otunya road and one (1) makeshift structure along Tokyo Way.
On Sunday, 17th August 2025, a similar operation was conducted by the council and the state police during which 34 illegal makeshift structures were dismantled along the same road, including one car wash near High Life, off Ring Road/Tokyo Way.
Before the demolitions, the Council issued several warnings and enforcement notices to the owners of the illegal structures.
However, the directives were not heeded, prompting the local authority to take decisive action to restore order and ensure that business activities in the area are conducted lawfully.
The City Council is intensifying its monitoring, inspections and surveillance efforts to curb all forms of illegal construction across Lusaka in line with the Regional and Urban Planning Act No. 3 of 2015.
Lusaka residents are therefore urged to promptly report any illegal structures erected in undesignated areas within their communities to enable swift intervention by the Council.
