In a move to support culture, Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary, Rev. Mathews Chilekwa, has bought the Namwanga-Iwa chitenge at K20,000.

Rev. Chilekwa, who was guest of honour at the first-ever launch of the Namwanga-Iwa traditional attire and the Ng’ondo Ceremony yesterday, said the purchase is to show the government’s commitment to promoting culture.

Addressing the gathering, Rev. Chilekwa said the New Dawn Government values tradition and will continue supporting initiatives that keep culture alive.

Chief Kafwimbi praised the introduction of the attire, saying it will remain a strong identity for the Winamwanga people.

He explained that for a long time the Winamwanga had wanted an attire that represents their roots.

Isoka Member of Parliament, Marjorie Nakaponda, said the move will help ensure that future generations remain connected to their culture.

She noted that the attire will play an important role in preserving tradition.

Meanwhile, Winamwanga Ambassador Karen Nakamba described the launch as historic and encouraged people to take pride in wearing the chitenge.

Other officials present included the Isoka District Commissioner, government Head of Departments , and members of the business community, among others.
