A 19-Year-Old business lady has been brutally attacked and robbed of K2,450 and an Itel phone valued at K270 at her home in Vubwi District of Eastern Province.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on August 22, 2025, around 01:00 hours in Mzomba Village, under Chief Pembamoyo.

Mr Mweemba says the victim, Olivatah Tembo, is a well-known lady in the village for her business of selling beer.

On August 20, 2025, around 14:00 hours, the victim started selling her beer as usual until around 01:00 hours, when her uncle, Felix Tembo, heard a cry for help near his house.

Mr Mweemba explained that when the uncle woke up and went to check, he discovered that the cry was coming from behind his niece’s house.

The uncle rushed to her house and found the door widely open. He tried to call for her, but she did not respond, apart from just crying.

He says upon entering the house, the uncle found his niece lying in a pool of blood and immediately informed her mother, Mariana Sakala, aged 54.

He says the victim was taken to Mchenjeza Clinic, where she was referred to Chipata General Hospital.

However, she was later taken to Mchinji General Hospital on the Malawian side, where she was admitted and later again referred to Lilongwe Central Hospital in Malawi.

The victim sustained severe injuries, including two deep cuts on the right backside of her forehead, a deep cut above her right eyebrow, two deep cuts on her right cheek, and a bruised right shoulder.

He says a stone found in her bedroom is suspected to have been used to inflict the injuries.

Meanwhile, Mr Mweemba said three suspects, including the victim’s boyfriend, Mabvuto Phiri, aged 26, of Pembamoyo Village, have been apprehended in connection with the robbery and attack.

He says a small black Itel phone was recovered from Mabvuto Phiri, her boyfriend.

The other suspects are Jameson Phiri, aged 20, of Kalizangulu Village, and Davison Tembo, aged 26, a Malawian national from Veleli Village, Mchinji district.

He says the docket has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.
