One person has died while six others sustained serious injuries following a road traffic accident involving a Tata light truck along the Great North Road at Block D area, south of Mazabuka Town.
The deceased, who was aboard the vehicle along with the injured, has been identified as Neatness Sikalinda of Monze, whose age is yet to be established at broadcast time.
The accident occurred around 05:00 hours on 15th September, 2025.
The driver of the vehicle, only identified as Shake of Monze, fled the scene shortly after the incident.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, says initial investigations indicate that the accident was caused by excessive speed, which led the driver to lose control of the vehicle and overturn.
The injured passengers include 32-year-old Costern Mwiinga, who sustained a deep cut on the head.
Maria Chibinga, 14, sustained a fractured left limb.
Priscilla Milambo, 33, suffered a painful back and general body pains.
Others are Rodgers Mwiinga, aged 29, who sustained bruises on the face and a painful right shoulder.
Paulina Muyuni, 20, sustained a fractured left leg and bruises on the forehead.
Steve Phiri, 26, sustained a swollen and painful left limb.
All the injured, who are residents of Monze, are admitted to Mazabuka General Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
