A 20-year-old man from the Kakuse area in Chief Shezongo’s jurisdiction has died following a tragic incident during a local football match.
According to a report received by Itezhi-Tezhi Police Station from the deceased’s father, Mr. Charles Shikanyenu, his son, Sheny Shikanyenu, collapsed and died on Sunday, September 14, 2025, around 16:30 hours while playing football at Shambala Football Pitch.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred during active play when the deceased jumped to head the ball as another player simultaneously attempted to kick it.
The two reportedly collided mid-air, causing Sheny to fall heavily to the ground.
He was rushed to Shambala Clinic, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police reported that there were no visible external injuries apart from bleeding from the nose.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident in an interview with ITT Radio, stating that the body has been deposited at Itezhi-Tezhi Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
He added that the matter is being treated as a case of sudden and unnatural death.
