Two people have died following an exchange of gunfire between game rangers and suspected poachers at Bush Cut Farm in Chisamba.
Central Province Police Commissioner Charity Munganga identified the deceased as 19-year-old ranger Zachariah Hachombe and poacher Tobias Mbozi of Mbozi Farm, Chisamba.
According to a statement given to ZNBC News, four poachers managed to escape during the shootout, leaving behind one armed suspect. The lone poacher fatally shot the ranger before being gunned down by officers.
Police recovered a CBC Brazil 12-gauge single shotgun loaded with live shells, along with four additional shotgun shells at the scene. Officers also discovered warthog carcasses cut into pieces and concealed in sacks.
Commissioner Munganga confirmed that a manhunt has been launched for the remaining fugitives and urged members of the public to report any information to the nearest police station.The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Chisamba Rural Health Centre mortuary for postmortem examination.
