A 35-year-old Yango driver has turned the tables on a robbery suspect, leading to his arrest following a dramatic police operation in Lusaka.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, the arrest was made by officers from Los Angeles Police Post after the driver, of Ng’ombe Compound, reported a previous attack by three knife-l wielding robbers.

The incident occurred on October 3, 2025 around 03:00 hours when the suspects booked the driver’s Yango ride and robbed him of a Samsung Note 8 phone valued at K3,000 and K350 cash, bringing the total loss to K3,350.

In a surprising twist, on October 7, 2025 around 01:15 hours, the driver received another booking from the same contact number used during the robbery. Acting swiftly he alerted officers at Los Angeles Police Post who accompanied him to verify the booking.

Upon arrival near Chibolya Grounds, the driver identified the area as the same spot where he had been attacked. As one of the suspects entered the vehicle, three others emerged from nearby makeshift structures. The suspect attempted to snatch the driver’s phone, prompting him to flee while officers moved in.

Police apprehended one suspect, identified as Gift Banda aged 29, of Chibolya Compound, while the other suspects escaped. A manhunt for the remaining individuals has since been launched.

“The apprehended suspect is currently detained in police custody to assist with further investigations,” said Hamoonga.
