A 50-year-old man from Hillside Compound in Mazabuka has di£d after succumbing to assault injuries inflicted by two security officers from G4S Security Company deployed at Zambia Sugar.
The deceased, Alick Phiri, was reportedly found stealing sugarcane on 10th October, 2025, between 10:00 hours and 11:00 hours at the Zambia Sugar PLC cane fields behind Nkabika Compound.
After the initial alleged beating by the two security officers, namely Sonard Mwiinga, aged 32, and Mike Nakueza, 27, the deceased sustained swollen and painful legs, chest pains, and general body pains.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, tells Byta FM that the deceased was hit with fists, kicks, as well as a metal object alleged to have been used in the act.
Daka notes that he was taken to Mazabuka General Hospital for treatment and later transferred to the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, where he was pronounced dead on 16th October, 2025.
He updates that a post-mortem examination conducted on the deceased indicated that d£ath resulted from blunt impact to the head due to assault.
Daka says the two suspects, who were already in police custody, will now be charged with murd£r.
