A 35 Year old Man of Kambili area in Kasama’s Nkole Mfumu Chiefdom has di£d after fatally being attacked by a Hippo.
Northern Province Police commanding officer Lucky Mukondya has confirmed the incident in a statement issued to Kasama Radio News today.
Ms. Mukondya said the matter was reported yesterday around 10:50hrs by Tresford Mwansa aged 59, the father to the now deceased.
She explained that the victim sustained multiple deep cuts on the head, broken hands and a big wound on the back of his body.
Brief facts of the matter are that on 20th October, 2025 around 06:00hrs, the now deceased left home to lua-luo River with a view of fishing.
According to Police, in the process of doing so, he met a hippo which started chasing him and started biting him all over the body leaving him dead with multiple cuts, broken hands and a big opening on the back of the body.
Members of the Public that witnessed the incident later informed the father of the deceased who in turn reported the matter to the Police.
Ms. Mukondya said Police rushed to the scene where they inspected the body and observed the above stated injuries, further stating that an inquiry file has since been opened.
And Patrick Kawimbe who narrated the ordeal to Kasama Radio News revealed that Hippos have continued to terrorize the people of Kambili village and the surrounding areas, calling on the department of national parks and wildlife to come to the aid of the residents who are now living in fear.
Mr. Kawimbe warned that if not quickly addressed, more lives will be lost in the same manner.
