The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has urged all stakeholders to step up efforts in raising awareness and mobilising eligible citizens to take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
Speaking during a press briefing, ECZ Chairperson Mrs. Mwangala Zaloumis, SC, acknowledged growing calls from stakeholders for an extension of the registration period. She assured the public that the Commission is closely monitoring the exercise and will make appropriate decisions based on data and operational realities.
Mrs. Zaloumis also revealed that the ECZ is engaging the Ministry of Home Affairs to find practical solutions to challenges faced by citizens who are yet to obtain National Registration Cards, which are a prerequisite for voter registration.
The Commission has further extended the accreditation period for observer organisations to 31st October, 2025. Stakeholders can apply through District Registration Officers and are allowed to submit up to three observers per constituency.
Meanwhile, the ECZ Chairperson announced that the inspection of the 2026 provisional register of voters will take place in February 2026 at all registration centres. This process will allow registered voters to verify and validate their details before the final register is certified on 30th April, 2026.
The ECZ also clarified that individuals who registered in 2020 or during the Continuous Registration of Voters remain on the register and do not need to register again. However, those who have changed their location, lost, or damaged their voter’s card are encouraged to update their records and obtain replacements.
The Commission continues to appeal to all eligible Zambians and stakeholders to participate actively and ensure that every voice counts in shaping the nation’s democratic future.
