Dr. Kachinga Sichizya has shared an update from the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Paediatric theatre after a long but successful surgery day in which the neurosurgery team completed eight major operations.

Dr. Sichizya said on his Facebook post that the operations were a mix of three MMC repairs, one VP shunt, three ETVs, and the last was a very complicated strip-craniectomy which was also the toughest which is why it was left until last.

The strip-craniectomy was performed on a 13-year-old girl from kabwe who was having antibiotics and other treatment to evacuate pus in the middle of her brain. The operation one of the most difficult we have performed because it was located near one of the largest venous sinuses,” he said.

Even though it was an extremely difficult surgery, it was finished safely and successfully. Because of how difficult it was, the team was brought into deep worship to give thanks for the surgery going positively and for helping save another young life.

The operating team included Drs Mweushi Mphande, Elijah Samakayi Katambo, Andrew Kasonde, Evans Lukonde, Angel Siame, Clays Siame, Chola Chilufya, and Eli Siwale as well as Anaesthetists Katongo Mumba and Thomson Mulenga, Sister Patience Kapaipi and Nelo Musonda.
