As 2025 comes to a close, Zambia’s Kwacha has shown notable improvement, recovering from early year pressures to finish stronger against major currencies.‎‎

Analysts attribute the rebound to huge mining export earnings, firm copper prices, and tighter monetary policies by the Bank of Zambia.‎‎

The year began with the Kwacha under pressure, and the introduction of new banknotes in March sparked public concern.

‎‎Authorities clarified that the redesign did not affect the currency’s value, and experts agree that the recovery reflects economic fundamentals rather than the new notes.‎‎

Zambia Statistics Agency ZamStats has recorded relatively low inflation throughout the year, yet many community members continue to express concern over the high cost of living.‎‎

Prices for basic commodities such as food, fuel, and transport remain a challenge for households, highlighting a gap between macroeconomic indicators and everyday realities.‎‎

As Zambia enters 2026, sustaining the Kwacha’s stability and ensuring that currency gains translate into real relief for citizens will remain a key economic challenge.
