The government has given the Road Development Agency-RDA seven days to repair the damaged bridges and restore connectivity in Lundazi District.

Speaking during a press briefing today in Lundazi District, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Norman Chipakupaku said the government will provide all the necessary requirements to ensure the bridges are repaired within the shortest possible time.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chipakupaku assured flood victims in Lundazi District of Eastern Province of the government’s support.

He said the government will provide food supplies and material support such as blankets, tents, and other essential items.

Mr. Chipakupaku added that the first priority is to ensure people have clean and safe water, noting that the government has already positioned some water bowsers to facilitate water supply in the district.

He said these initiatives are being implemented as the water treatment plant and other alternatives are being assessed.

He further noted that Vice President Mutale Nalumango has emphasized the need for the people of Lundazi to have clean and safe water despite the disruption caused by the floods.

Mr. Chipakupaku added that in the coming days, the Vice President will travel to Lundazi to appreciate the challenges caused by the floods.

He said the government will do everything possible to ensure that all affected people are assisted and that there is no outbreak of diseases such as cholera.

He also said the government will look into the situation of those whose crops have been damaged and determine how they can be helped.

Meanwhile, Lundazi District Commissioner Majory Banda said her office has continued assessing the affected areas to ensure that all impacted communities are captured.
