GRIMES, Iowa (KCCI) – An Iowa woman was shocked to discover she was pregnant only after giving birth at her job Monday morning.
Amethyst Blumberg unexpectedly delivered her son, Onyx King Easterlie, at a FedEx facility in Grimes. Both mother and baby are healthy and doing well.
The delivery occurred around 8 a.m., at the end of her work shift, when Blumberg went to the restroom.
“I couldn’t even get off the toilet,” she recalled.
Fortunately, she was able to open the door and call for help, and the situation escalated quickly.
“I got up and felt his head,” she said.
By the time the Johnston-Grimes Fire District arrived, Onyx was already making his grand entrance. First responders reached the scene at 8:29 a.m., and the baby was delivered just minutes later at 8:33 a.m.
Blumberg described the experience as completely unexpected, noting she had no typical pregnancy symptoms this time.
“With my first child, I had all the symptoms, but this time I had nothing,” she said. “I didn’t even gain weight—I was losing weight at work. The only signs were back pain during labor and feeling him move as he was descending.”
Fire District member Nick Pearson, who assisted with the delivery, said the situation didn’t surprise him, as he has seen many unusual cases in his career. “I’m just grateful both mom and baby are healthy,” he said.
Blumberg now has a remarkable story to share about giving birth at work. “He’s perfect,” she said. “He’s our FedEx baby.”
According to WebMD, Blumberg’s experience is known as a cryptic pregnancy, which is surprisingly more common than having triplets.
