The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has issued a stern reminder to the public and business entities that constructing or operating energy facilities without the necessary permits or licenses is a serious legal offense. Under the Energy Regulation Act No. 12 of 2019, any activity involving the generation, transmission, distribution, or supply of energy products and services requires formal authorization from the board.

In a public notice released on April 4, 2026, the ERB emphasized that a construction permit must be secured before any work begins on an energy facility, and a valid license is mandatory for its operation. The board warned that failure to comply with these regulations will lead to enforcement actions, which may include heavy penalty fines, the immediate closure of operations, and other legal sanctions.

To protect consumers and ensure safety within the sector, the ERB is urging the public to verify the licensing status of their energy service providers through the official ERB portal or by contacting their offices directly. Furthermore, citizens are encouraged to report any suspected unlicensed operations to help maintain a safe and compliant energy environment across the country.
