Police in Lusaka have arrested and charged Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party leader Kasonde Mwenda for allegedly publishing a deceptive video on social media.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said Mwenda, 42, has been charged with Transmission of Unsolicited Deceptive Electronic Communications, contrary to Section 19 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.
According to police, the offence occurred on May 1, 2026, when Mwenda allegedly produced and circulated a video on his Facebook page, “Kasonde Mwenda C,” claiming that a Presidential motorcade had lost its way while heading to an event in Chinsali District.
Police say the video contained false and misleading information intended to deceive members of the public.
Mwenda is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon.
