Four pupils from Chipata Day Secondary School are receiving treatment at Chipata Central Hospital after they were hit by a vehicle driven by a teacher from the same school.
Matilda Nkhoma, 47, of Munga Compound, allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to an error in judgement, hitting the pupils before crashing into a tree.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba says the accident, involving a Toyota Voxy registration number ARD 2823, occurred around 07:00 hours near the school gate.
Mr. Mweemba says Ms. Nkhoma sustained chest pains, while one pupil suffered a suspected fractured spine.He adds that the other pupils sustained fractured legs and swollen hands.
Mr. Mweemba says the accident happened as both the teacher and the pupils were on their way to school.
