THE Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has stepped up its community empowerment drive in Muchinga Province with a significant capital investment aimed at boosting the local apiculture sector.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Douty Chibamba has officially handed over utility bicycles to community mentors under the Kaswa Beekeeping Producer Group in Mafinga District. The handover follows a specialized capacity-building program where 26 local group members were successfully trained in modern apiculture and sustainable forest management techniques.
To facilitate mobility and ensure effective ongoing extension support for the project, the Ministry has allocated five bicycles to each of the eight designated community mentors. The total monetary value of the procurement for the eight bicycles is estimated at over K40,000.
In addition to the transport support, the Kaswa Beekeeping Producer Group is set to receive a bulk supply of 1,800 beehives to significantly scale up local honey production, enhance rural livelihoods, and promote forest conservation efforts within the district.
