Presidential aspirant Brian Mundubile has pledged to treat President Hakainde Hichilema with dignity and respect if he wins the upcoming election.
Speaking during a rally in Kabwe, Mundubile said he would ensure that President Hichilema enjoys all the privileges and recognition accorded to a former Head of State once he leaves office.
“I will not trouble you. I will give you respect,” Mundubile said, drawing cheers from supporters.
He went on to say that Zambia currently has no living former Head of State actively playing that role and that he would encourage President Hichilema to take up that position.
In a light-hearted moment, Mundubile joked that he would facilitate international travel for the President and even provide him with a plane when necessary.
Referring to President Hichilema as his “elder brother,” Mundubile said the country should continue honouring its former leaders regardless of political differences.
His remarks come as political campaigns continue to gather momentum ahead of the August elections.
