A Chipata resident has died after being stabbed by his ex‑wife following a misunderstanding.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said the incident occurred around 16:00 hours when the deceased, Kangwa Mumbi, visited his ex‑wife Agness Zulu of Mthilansembe Compound, who is of Malawian descent.
Mr. Mweemba explained that the two differed and fought, during which Mumbi stabbed Zulu in the spine. Before collapsing, Zulu reportedly picked the same knife and stabbed Mumbi in the chest, causing excessive bleeding.
Police found Mumbi’s body in a pool of blood, with a deep cut on the upper left side of the chest.
Mr. Mweemba said Zulu was rushed to a nearby hospital before being referred to Chipata Central Hospital, where she is admitted under guard and her condition is stable.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at Chipata Central Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
