The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has indefinitely suspended all campaign activities for the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) in Kaputa Constituency, following an incident of political violence that claimed the life of a member of another political party.

According to the Commission, the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice as investigations and other necessary processes continue.

The ECZ has also expressed concern over another fatal incident of political violence that occurred in Chivuna Village in Magoye East Constituency, Mazabuka District, where Mr. Stanley Sakala lost his life. The Commission says it is awaiting a comprehensive report from the Zambia Police Service before deciding on any further action regarding that case.

The Commission noted that the recent incidents are part of a worrying trend of political and electoral violence being recorded in different parts of the country as campaigns for the August 13 General Election continue.

It has since appealed to all political parties and independent candidates taking part in the elections to conduct their campaigns peacefully, respect the law, and strictly observe the Electoral Code of Conduct.

The ECZ further warned that it will firmly enforce the provisions of the Electoral Process (Amendment) Act No. 12 of 2026 on any political party or candidate who is found to have taken actions that undermine peaceful elections.

The Commission stressed that appropriate action should be expected in accordance with its legal mandate for all who do not comply with the law.
