Mopani Copper Mines PLC has recorded its strongest monthly ore production in two years after producing 289,000 tonnes of ore in June 2026, while also exceeding its target for finished copper produced from its own feed.

The mining company produced 5,140 metric tonnes of copper cathode during the month, slightly above its June target of 5,104 metric tonnes, marking another milestone in its ongoing recovery and operational turnaround.

Commenting on the achievement, Mopani Chief Executive Officer Charles Sakanya said the results reflect the progress the company is making through operational improvements and continued investment.

“What makes this achievement particularly significant is that it was attained completely with our own material, which marks a major shift away from our previous reliance on third-party toll treatment. Until recently, our finished copper production relied almost equally on third-party toll treatment. Reducing that dependence while exceeding our production target demonstrates the progress we are making across our operations,” Sakanya said.

He attributed the improved performance to innovations introduced across the mine and continued investment by shareholders International Resources Holding (IRH), ZCCM-IH, and IH, as well as the commitment shown by employees.

According to Sakanya, the company has deliberately adopted a more disciplined and collaborative approach to its operations, a move that has started to deliver tangible results.

“Over the past several months, we have challenged ourselves to operate differently—with greater discipline, urgency, and collaboration. Our performance during the final two weeks of June, when we consistently achieved around 11,000 tonnes of ore per day, demonstrates what our teams are capable of when we execute at our best,” he said.

Following the strong June performance, Mopani has now raised the bar by setting a July target of 7,155 metric tons of finished copper from its own feed as it continues to accelerate its production recovery.

Sakanya expressed confidence that the latest results signal more than just a successful month, saying they demonstrate that the company is steadily building a sustainable foundation for future growth.

“June gives us confidence that we are building sustainable momentum. While there is still work ahead, these results reinforce our belief that Mopani is on the right trajectory and that we are steadily unlocking the full potential of our assets and our people,” he said.

The June production figures mark another key step in Mopani’s recovery strategy, with the company aiming to restore, stabilize, and expand copper production through continued investment and operational improvements.
