A teacher of Kabwe Shitima Secondary School has taken her own life over a huge amount of debt owed to different people, police and the DEBS office confirmed.

Ms Lucy Konkola, aged 34, a teacher of English and Religious Education, ended her life after one of the people she owed allegedly threatened to make her go viral as a scammer.

Before the act, she invited her mother to Kabwe. However, the mother found the door to the house wide open and her daughter unconscious. She rushed her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kabwe DEBS Inonge Mulemwa has expressed sadness over Konkola’s death and advised teachers to seek counsel whenever in debts they are unable to pay.

The Shitima school administration also confirmed the death in a post on their Facebook.

“It is with profound sadness that the Shitima Secondary School family announces the passing of our beloved colleague, Ms. Konkola Lucy. Ms. Konkola was a jovial, dedicated, and committed educator whose passion for teaching and genuine care for her learners touched many lives. Her contribution to our school community will be remembered with deep appreciation,” it stated.

“On behalf of the School Administration, members of staff, learners, parents, and the wider Shitima family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort, and may her soul rest in eternal peace.”
